Desire
Lauren K. Alleyne
For E.M. la meilleur poète…

I want to take your tongue
into my mouth, feel the wet
rush of your language surge
into this hungry space, pound
between my teeth and steal your
words into this eager orifice.
I want to swallow your alphabet,
feel your letters slip down my throat,
brand poetry in my chest, drink your
voice like sweet wine until it bursts
from my fingertips, spills from my lips
with a flavor heady as your own.
I want to absorb your music, let
your rhythm crack me wide,
inflame my insides and burn
me with a fire that only possession
can quench.

Lauren K. Alleyne is currently a graduate student in creative writing. She is originally from the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and currently resides in the Midwest. Recently, her writing was selected for reading and publication in the Des Moines National Poetry Festival. Professionally, Ms. Alleyne is interested in literature and gender studies and, in her (very little) free time, is a dedicated watcher of the WB's Charmed.
